Slovakia August 2019: Suzuki (+135.3%), Dacia (+25.1%) stand out in market down -5.1%

Suzuki sales more than double year-on-year in Slovakia in August.

New car sales in Slovakia skid down -5.1% year-on-year in August to 10.051, a good performance given year-ago volumes were boosted up 45.8% by artificial pre-WLTP sales. The year-to-date tally is now up 0.5% to 71.569. Brand leader Skoda (-9.1%) disappoints with a weak 13.8% share vs. 18.3% YTD whereas Suzuki (+135.3%) takes off like in most Eastern European markets in August potentially due to fleet or artificial demo sales. Volkswagen (-8.5%) is back up to #3 and #2 YTD, distancing Kia (+10.8%) and Hyundai (+7.3%) while Toyota (+9.3%) is strong and Dacia (+25.1%) stuns. Below, Jaguar (+320%), Land Rover (+157.1%), Lada (+148.5%), Mini (+87.5%), Alfa Romeo (+71.4%), Lexus (+52.9%), BMW (+28%) and Audi (+13.9%) impress. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+45.7%) reclaims the top spot for the third time this year after January and May but remains below the Skoda Fabia (-22.7%) year-to-date. The Kia Cee’d (+56.4%) is back to #3 like YTD, distancing the Hyundai i30 (-17.6%), VW Golf (+22.2%) and Skoda Karoq (-28.4%). However our Top 10 may be incomplete as only featuring the YTD Top 10, and models such as the Skoda Scala and Suzuki Vitara may actually appear in it this month.
