Oman First Half 2019: Toyota hits 50% share in market down -15%

The new Corolla (+9.7%) helps Toyota up to 50% share in Oman.

No sign of improvement for new car sales in Oman down a ghastly -15% year-on-year over the First Half of 2019 to 53.641 units. Toyota (-10.5%) resists a lot better than the market to hit a round 50% share over the period, towering above Nissan (-43.2%) in great difficulty at only 16.3% of the market vs. 24.4% a year ago. Hyundai (+3.4%) and Lexus (+19.4%) manage to actually improve their volumes year-on-year, as do Renault (+109.4%), Infiniti (+88.8%) and Chevrolet (+8.3%) at the tail end of the Top 12.

In the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+3%) swims upstream to return to #1, dislodging the Nissan Patrol (-50.9%) slicing its volume in two compared to the same period in 2018. The Toyota Hilux (-0.6%) meanwhile has stabilised its sales to remain at #2. Toyota places another 6 nameplates in the Top 10 to reach 8, with the Prado (+18.9%), Corolla (+9.7%) and Yaris (-0.5%) performing best but the Fortuner (-14.8%) and Camry (-8.5%) losing ground yet outpacing the freefalling market. The Nissan Sunny (+3%) is the only other non-Toyota in the Top 10. The Toyota Ace (#32) tops new launches ahead of the Lexus UX (#65) and MG6 (#110)
