Lebanon January-May 2019: Toyota Land Cruiser (+41%) reclaims top spot off Nissan Patrol (-1.5%), completes regional domination

The Toyota Land Cruiser is the best-seller in an astounding 6 Middle Eastern markets so far in 2019.

After crumbling down -21.7% over the Full Year 2018, the Lebanese new car market drops a worrying -11.7% year-on-year over the first 5 months of 2019 to 14.848 registrations. Toyota (+6.7%) swims upstream to reach 30.9% of the market vs. 25.6% a year ago whereas the rest of the Top 4 is entirely in negative: Nissan (-6.3%) manages to improve its share by one percentage point to 17.9% but Kia (-41.1%) is down from 15.9% to 10.6% and Hyundai (-20.8%) from 9.2% to 8.2%. Lexus (+178.7%) and Honda (+101.3%) are the heroes of the Top 10 and the only other brands in positive.

The Toyota Land Cruiser (+41%) is out of reach in the models ranking at 12.9% share, reclaiming the #1 spot the Nissan Patrol (-1.5%) snapped over the Full Year 2018. This means the Land Cruiser is #1 year-to-date in 6 markets in the region alongside Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar and Yemen. The Toyota Prado (-20.2%) completes a podium 100% large SUV like a year ago, with the Kia Picanto (-22.6%) the best-selling passenger car in the country once again. The Toyota Hilux (+200%), Lexus LX (+186.7%), Honda Civic (+103.8%), Renault Duster (+47.5%), Nissan X-Trail (+39%), Chevrolet Spark (+38%) and Suzuki Vitara (+32.3%) also shine, while the Toyota Rush (#36) snaps the title of most successful new launch.
