Austria May 2019: Skoda Octavia takes control YTD for the first time, VW T-Roc up to record #2

The Skoda Octavia is now the best-selling vehicle in Austria YTD.

The Austrian new car market reels in May at -6.1% year-on-year to 30.574 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -7.4% to 143.380. Brand leader Volkswagen (-24%) is hit particularly hard but remains on top at 14.7% vs. 9.8% for Skoda (+28.8%) in totally contrasting form. Seat (+14.9%) also swims upstream, making the brands podium 100% VW Group. Opel (+3.5%) is the only other gainer in the Top 10, with Hyundai (-24.9%) and Audi (-17.6%) in dire straits. The Skoda Octavia (+85.2%) posts the largest gain in the Top 20 to remain in the models pole position for the 2nd straight month and the 3rd time ever, smashing its volume record to 1.243, its first 4-digit result. This way, the Octavia overtakes the VW Golf (-33.8%) to take the lead YTD for the very first time. Meanwhile the VW T-Roc (+13.8%) steps up to a record 2nd place overall after spending 3 consecutive months at #3. The Ford Focus (+72.7%), Seat Ibiza (+53.9%) and Renault Clio (+31.3%) also manage spectacular gains in the Top 10.
