Austria July 2026: Skoda #1 brand for the 2nd time ever, BMW iX3 best-selling BEV
The BMW iX3 is the best-selling BEV in Austria in July.
New car sales in Austria are up 3.8% year-on-year in July to 25,823 units. This is a great performance given July 2025 was itself up 31.6% on the year prior. As a result the year-to-date volume is now up 13.4% to 190,352. This month Skoda (+5.4%) takes advantage of a mediocre month by traditional leader Volkswagen (-22.7%) to snap the brands top spot for the first time since November 2021 and possibly ever. BMW (-2%) stays at #3 despite a negative result and the next five carmakers all impress with double-digit gains. BYD (+83.1%) is the most dynamic and returns inside the Top 10 at #8, but doesn’t break any records. Seat (+28.8%), Toyota (+28.7%), Mercedes (+21.5%) and Audi (+18.2%) all shoot up. Notice Dacia (-38.7%) and Tesla (-90.5%) both crashing.
Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+46.1%) manages a third win in the past four months, but is stuck in 2nd place in the YTD order below the VW Golf (-16.9%), even though the latter falls to #8 in July. The BMW X3 (+117.8%) jumps to a brilliant 2nd spot, with the new iX3 BEV variant holding 68% of its July volume to take the lead of the BEV charts. Seat places the Arona (+62.5%) at #3 and the Ibiza (+20%) at #4 and the BMW X1 (-6.5%) rounds out the Top 5 (54% from the iX1). Other great gainers this month include the Mercedes GLC (+75.7%) at #6, the Seat Leon (+48.1%) at #7, the BYD Atto (+578.6%) at #12, the VW T-Roc (+88%) at #16 and the Opel Frontera (+203.6%) at #19.
