Greece July 2018: VW surges 87% thanks to stock-clearing program

Volkswagen is up 87% year-on-year this month in Greece to take the brands lead.

The Greek new car market is up 8.3% year-on-year in July to 9.124 units, lifting the year-to-date volume up 21.5% to 71.436 deliveries. Once again, Volkswagen (+87%) benefits from a stock-clearing program ahead of the September WLTP standards change to take the lead with 11.7% share vs. 8.9% YTD. Toyota (-16%) is knocked down to #32 ahead of Nissan (+5%), Fiat (+0.4%), Peugeot (+5%) and Hyundai (+5%) all underperforming. Volvo (+133%), Kia (+101%), Jeep (+98%), Honda (+61%), Audi (+55%), Citroen (+38%), Renault (+33%) and Mercedes (+20%) also stand out. Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Yaris (-0.4%) remains on top but is the only Top 5 nameplate in negative this month, with the Fiat Panda (+17%), VW Polo (+62%), Nissan Qashqai (+118%) and Renault Clio (+24%) in tow. Notice also the VW Golf (+80%), Hyundai i30 (+367%), VW Tiguan (+122%), Audi A3 (+132%) and Kia Picanto (+633%) getting noticed in the Top 25.  Among recent launches, the VW T-Roc (#15) is up 10 spots to a record #15 ahead of the Jeep Compass (#34), Volvo XC40 (#37), Citroen C3 Aircross (#44) and Seat Arona (#48).
