The Colombian new vehicle market returns to negative territory in June at -7.6% year-on-year to 18.324 registrations, yet the YTD tally halfway through 2018 manages to remain positive, but just: +0.3% to 113.491 units. As it was the case at almost each end of quarter over the past year (June 2017, December 2017 and March 2018), Renault (-13%) benefits from backloaded sales to take the lead of the brands ranking with a strong 19.9% share vs. just 18.4% for Chevrolet (-19%) which nevertheless retains the YTD top spot at 20.8% share vs. 19.6% for Renault. Nissan (+10%) and Mazda (+14%) deliver solid scores and remain at #3 and #4 respectively, but it’s Toyota (+41%) and Volkswagen (+40%) who post, and by far, the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 15. At the other end of the scale, Hyundai (-58%), Foton (-38%), Ford (-32%) and BMW (-22%) implode. Further down, Fiat (+340%), JMC (+218%), International (+213%) and Jeep (+184%) all score spectacular gains in the remainder of the Top 30.
FIrst Half 2018 models ranking is also available, showing the continued domination of the Renault Sandero, solid at +4% whereas the remainder of the podium is in negative: the Chevrolet Spark (-5%) and Renault Logan (-8%), The Logan, as well as the Kia Picanto up a very satisfying 13% both gain one spot vs. a year ago, benefiting from the freefalling of the Chevrolet Sail (-33%) in the wake of the Chevrolet Beat’s arrival, the most popular new launch over the period landing directly at #15. Inside the Top 15, the Chevrolet Onix (+39%), Nissan March (+22%), Mazda CX-5 (+17%) and Mazda2 (+16%) also brilliantly post double-digit gains. Further down, the Toyota Hilux (+139%), Fortuner (+117%), VW Amarok (+115%), VW Jetta (+102%) and Hyundai Grand i10 (+80%) also impress.
