Colombia March 2023: Toyota Hilux best-seller, market down another -17.2%

The Toyota Hilux is the most popular vehicle in Colombia for the first time.

New vehicles sales in Colombia continue to evolve markedly below they year-ago levels, with March down another -17.2% year-on-year to 17,270 units. This leads to a Q1 result off -18.3% to 46,962. Renault (-18.3%) hold onto the brands top spot with 16% share, while Toyota (+17.5%) ignores the market slump and overtakes Chevrolet (-42.8%) for 2nd place overall. Kia (-28.2%) sinks at #4 while Mazda (+47.7%) surges at #5. Foton (+17.3%) also impresses and climbs two spots on February to #9. Below, notice Ram (+1260%!), Subaru (+96.3%), Audi (+63.1%), Zhidou (+57.3%), Ford (+36.9%) and BMW (+13.5%) all posting fantastic gains.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+163.3%) leaps no less than 14 ranks on last month to end the month at #1, believed to be the nameplate’s first monthly win in Colombian history. It is also its first Top 10 finish since ranking #9 in June 2020. The Renault Duster (-4.6%) stays in 2nd place and snaps the YTD top spot as a result. The Chevrolet Onix (-36.2%) and Suzuki Swift (-44.8%) both freefall but camp on their February ranking while the Renault Kwid (-0.7%) is stable and rounds out the Top 5 like last month. The Mazda2 (+92.6%) and Toyota Corolla Cross (+17%) shine below.
