Colombia April 2023: Mazda2 best-seller in worsening market (-33.2%)

The Mazda2 is the most popular vehicle in Colombia for the first time.

The situation is worsening for the Colombian new vehicle market in April at -33.2% year-on-year to just 13,777 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally off -22.2% to 60,739. Renault (-35.4%) falls faster than the market but easily retains the brands top spot with 16.3% share. Toyota (-11.8%) repeats at a strong 2nd place with 13.4% of the market, distancing Mazda (-8.2%) up two spots on April to #3. #1 a year ago, Chevrolet (-57.3%) implodes to #4 ahead of Kia (-33.8%) and Suzuki (-31.9%) evolving roughly like the market. Foton (+14.2%) manages the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10 while Hyundai (-2.6%) is almost stable and climbs to #8. Below, Zhidou (+1145.5%), Dongfeng (+194.1%), DAF (+125%) and Citroen (+95.7%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Mazda2 (181.3%) surges nine ranks on last month to snap the victory with 5.5% share, distancing the Renault Duster (+3.7%) and Toyota Corolla Cross (-13.4%). It is believed to be the first ever monthly win for the Mazda2 which now ranks #4 year-to-date vs. #16 over the Full Year 2022. The Toyota Hilux (+86%) falls three spots to #4 but still manages a market-defying uptick. The Chevrolet Onix (-55.6%) freefalls at #5 and is followed by the Renault Kwid (-21.6%), Suzuki Swift (-23.8%) ad Kia Picanto (-49.2%). The Mazda CX-30 (-71.7%) sinks at #9 while the Chevrolet Tracker (+130%) rounds out the Top 10 in splendid manner. Below, the Hyundai HB20S Accent (+246.4%) soars to #11.
