Finland October 2017: Toyota and Skoda shine, Qashqai leads in market down

The Nissan Qashqai is the best-seller in Finland for the 2nd straight month.

New car sales in Finland are down 4.9% year-on-year in October to 8.658 registrations, pulling the year-to-date tally down 1.2% to 99.543 units. The Top two best-selling carmakers ignore the surrounding gloom and both post double-digit year-on-year gains: Toyota is up 17% to 13.3% share and Skoda is up 20% to 10.1%. In contrast, Volkswagen plunges 23% to 10% share. Kia (-26%) and Ford (-24%) also struggle while Mercedes (+13%) and Opel (+22%) shine. Further down, Dacia shoots up 210%, Mini up 263% and Lexus up 170%. Porsche (+33%), Jaguar (+29%), Mitsubishi (+28%), Land Rover (+14%) and Peugeot (+11%) also make themselves noticed. Model-wise, the Nissan Qashqai posts a second consecutive month atop the sales charts thanks to sales edging up 2% on October 2016, ahead of the Skoda Octavia (+1%), VW Golf (-21%), Toyota Auris (+23%) and Yaris (-1%), replicating the September Top 5. The Toyota Avensis is up 15%, the Volvo V90 up 20%, the Volvo XC60 up 63%, the Skoda Fabia up 77%, the Toyota RAV4 up 21% and the BMW 5 Series up 16%.
