Thailand July 2017: Mitsubishi up 62%, Isuzu D-Max holds onto lead

Thai new vehicle sales are up 7.5% year-on-year in July to 65.178 units, lifting the year-to-date total up 10.7% to 475.158 registrations. Toyota goes against the grain with a worrying 18% year-on-year fall to 25.2% share vs. 27.1% year-to-date. Isuzu (+14%) reclaims the 2nd spot off Honda (+15%) at 18.6% share vs. 16.1%. Mitsubishi soars 62% but remains in 4th place, ahead of Nissan (+37%), Ford (+21%), Mazda (+13%), Suzuki (+24%) and Chevrolet (+22%), all comfortably beating the market growth. Mercedes (-10%) is with Toyota the only Top 10 manufacturer to decline. Further down, MG soars 47% at #11, BMW is up 36%, Hyundai up 38%, Kia up 104% and Volkswagen up almost 30-fold (!) whereas Subaru implodes down 70%.

Model-wise, the Isuzu D-Max has now been the best-selling vehicle in the country for six of the seven months of 2017 so far, and gains 13% in July to hop to 15.2% share vs. 13.6% (-6%) for its archenemy the Toyota Hilux. The advantage the D-Max holds over the Hilux year-to-date is now over 13.000 units. As we mentioned last month, this now seems like an unsurmountable advantage and the D-Max is headed towards its very first Thai crown in over a decade in 2017… The Ford Ranger (+33%) is back above the Toyota Yaris (+1%) in third place while the Honda City (+14%) claws back up one spot on June to #5. The Mazda2 (+24%), Honda Jazz (+36%) and Mitsubishi Triton (+53%) all frankly beat the market inside the Top 10 while beyond the Nissan Navar (+22%), Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (+39%), Isuzu MU-X (+41%), Suzuki Ciaz (+88%), Mitsubishi Attrage (+94%) and Honda CR-V (+393%) impress in the Top 20. The Nissan Note is up four spots to #22.
