Turkish new car sales crash down 11% year-on-year in February to 46.965 registrations, bringing the year-to-date tally down 3.8% to 82.288 units. Volkswagen gains two spots to reclaim the pole position it held over the Full Year 2016, this despite sales down a harsh 20% to 6.502 for a 13.8% market share. Renault (-0.1%) ends the month in 2nd place but keeps the year-to-date lead for now at 11.029 sales vs. 10.816 for VW. Fiat (-5%), Ford (-26%) and Hyundai (-3%) follow with Peugeot (+8%), Nissan (+16%), Dacia (+21%) and Honda (+46%) the only marques in positive territory within the Top 10. Further down, notice Porsche (+53%) and Citroen (+134%) impress but most manufacturers are in negative, with Mercedes (-30%), Opel (-34%), Audi (-42%), Alfa Romeo (-43%), BMW (-56%) and Subaru (-64%) among the hardest hit. Luxury brands are now paying the price of anticipated sales at the end of last year in the wake of a tax hike on premium models at the start of this year.

The Peugeot 301 is boosted up to 6th place overall by its facelift.

Model-wise, the Renault Mégane takes control of the Turkish sales charts with sales up 7-fold on a year ago to 2.264 and 6.4% share, 2.104 or 93% of which are coming from the newly launched and locally produced sedan variant which replaces the Renault Fluence, #1 in Turkey in 2014. As a reminder, before the Fluence nameplate was launched, the Renault Mégane also used to dominate the Turkish sales charts thanks to its sedan variant: it ranked #1 from 2004 to 2006. Like in January, Renault manages a 1-2 in Turkey with the Clio up a fantastic 67% year-on-year to snap the 2nd spot. The Mégane is already #1 year-to-date with deliveries surging 956% to 3.990. Other great performers this month include the Peugeot 301 up 118% year-on-year and 23 spots on January to #6 thanks to its facelift and the Honda Civic up 176% to #7 also thanks to the new model. The Toyota C-HR is down 5 spots on last month to #38 and the Peugeot Expert makes it first appearance in the Turkish charts at #179.
