The Jordanian new car market is down a harsh 27% year-on-year in 2016 to 44.913 registrations, with a big change atop the brands charts: Toyota (-6%) overtakes Hyundai (freefalling down 50%) to take the lead with an imposing 28.8% share vs. 22.2% a year ago. Hyundai for its part goes from 34.5% to 23.9% but sister brand Kia manages to improve to 19.2% in third place thanks to deliveries down “just” 25%. Jordanian 2016 sales are down just 12% if we remove Hyundai and Kia. Mitsubishi (-63%) and Nissan (-18%) hold onto their respective 4th and 5th positions, and are now followed by Isuzu up 5-fold to #7. Stunningly, the next five brands all gain ground: Mazda (+8%), Lexus (+10%), Suzuki (+30%), Ford (+33%) and Chevrolet (+54%). Further down, notice Citroen (+61%), Honda (+70%), GMC (+127%) and Jeep (+466%) all posting spectacular gains.

Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser more than doubles its volume (+111%) to brilliantly take the lead of the Jordanian charts whereas it only ranked 5th last year. The Hyundai Elantra (-16%) remains in 2nd place while the Kia Frontier (+26%) gains three spots to #3. All other nameplates inside the Top 10 lose market share due to greater-than-market drops bar the Kia Sorento (-27%), Sportage (-18%) and Isuzu D-Max (+480%). Leader in 2015, the Hyundai Accent falls 83% to #11 this year. Notice also the Toyota Prius C up to #17, the Hyundai Creta up to #19 and the Ford Mondeo up to #31.
