The Canadian new light vehicle market posts a fourth consecutive month of decline in October at -5% to 154.790 units, yet the year-to-date tally still evolves at record-breaking heights, up 2.5% on the same period in 2015 to 1.666.323 deliveries. Like in the neighbouring USA, passenger cars take the hardest hit at -9% and only represent 34% of the overall market. Ford Motor (-3%), General Motors (-9%), FCA (-13%) and Toyota Motor (-6%) lead the way but all decline while Honda Motor gains 2%. Subaru (+10%), BMW-Mini (+12%) and Jaguar-Land Rover (+20%) are the only groups delivering double-digit gains. Brand-0wise, Ford stays at the realm with 13.5% share (-2%) ahead of Toyota (-5%), Honda (+1%), Chevrolet (-8%) and Hyundai (-14%). Buick (+22%), Jaguar (+295%) and Bentley (+211%) all shine.
…and the CR-V is boosted up to #4 by runout pricing on the outgoing model.
Over in the models ranking, the Ford F-Series takes a break: after breaking its personal best 4 times in the past 7 months – March (13.385), April (13.957), August (14.197) and September (15.659) – in October the star pickup truck falls down 12% to 8.475 units, its lowest monthly score so far in 2016. YTD sales amount to 124.149 units (+23%), now days away from breaking its all-time annual record of 126.277 units hit over the Full Year 2014. The Honda Civic (+2%) snaps the 2nd place off the Ram Pickup (-16%) for the first time in over two years (September 2014). Note the last time the Civic ended the year at #2 in Canada was 2010. It still lags behind the Ram year-to-date at 56.783 (+2%) vs. 76.200 (-4%). Outstanding performance of the Honda CR-V up 21% to 4th place overall vs. #11 year-to-date, with the Toyota Corolla (+21%), Ford Fusion (+40%), Ford Edge (+53%) and Hyundai Sonata (+34%) also posting impressive gains inside the Top 30.
