There’s no stopping the Mexican new light vehicle market this year. Up 18% year-on-year to a September record 131.454 sales, this is the 29th consecutive month of year-on-year gains in Mexico, the 21st consecutive monthly record and 14th consecutive month above 100.000 units. The year-to-date tally is also up 18% to 1.119.178 units, equivalent to the annual result reached just two years ago in 2014 (1.135.409), and on track to flirt with a 1.6 million unit Full Year score. Atop the brands ranking, both Nissan and Chevrolet gain 19%, followed by Volkswagen (+13%), Ford (+33%), Toyota (+16%) and Honda (+5%). Kia (+245%) posts a 9th consecutive record month, up 3.5% on August to 5.903 units and now threatening Honda for 6th place overall. Dodge (+39%), Hyundai (+31%), Mercedes (+46%), GMC (+43%) and Volvo (+50%) all frankly beat the market.
The Chevrolet Aveo reclaims the models pole position for just 60 units this month thanks to sales up 48% to 7.088 vs. 7.028 (+41%) for the Nissan Versa, still #1 year-to-date at 61.762 sales (+42%) vs. 51.638 (+64%) for the Chevrolet Spark at #2 and 49.263 (-4%) for the Aveo at #3. The VW Vento surges 36% to third place in September, with other great performers atop the ranking including the Chevrolet Sonic (+30%), Trax (+24%), VW Polo (+74%), Toyota Yaris (+61%), Kia Sportage (+120%), Nissan Frontier (+197%) and Honda City (+38%). The Kia Forte (+204%) continues to progress at #26 with 1.377 sales including 1.356 produced locally. The Ford Figo (#11) leads recent launches (<12 months) by very far, distancing the Kia Rio (#28) and Mazda CX-3 (#43). Launched last month, the Nissan Kicks is up 148 spots to #52.
