Mexican new light vehicle sales continue on their crazy ride with deliveries up another whopping 20% year-on-year in August to 134.054, an all-time high for the month lifting the year-to-date tally up 18.5% to 987.724. We are now looking at 28 consecutive months of year-on-year gains, 20 consecutive monthly records, 13 consecutive months above 100.000 units and a full year 2016 score aiming at an incredible 1.6 million units. Market leader Nissan is once again slightly below pace at +14% to a still dominant 24.8% share, flanked by Chevrolet at 17.6% (+23%) and Volkswagen at 13.3% (+16%). Just below, Ford (+27%), Toyota (+20%) and Honda (+37%) are all on- or above pace.
It has become a bit of a routine: September’s best performer is newcomer Kia, pulling an 8th consecutive record month at 5.702 sales and 4.3% share, up 3.5% on July and now stuck at an all-time high 7th place above Mazda (-1%) and sister brand Hyundai (+27%). This month’s Kia sales figure includes 1.313 Forte built in the shining new Nuevo Leon plant. Dodge (+24%), Renault (+31%), Mercedes (+39%) and BMW (+26%) are the other strong gainers in the Top 20. Further down, notice Isuzu (+84%), Volvo (+46%), Cadillac (+34%), Smart (+33%), Alfa Romeo (+141%) and Jaguar (+55%) also in great shape.
The Nissan Versa holds onto the models pole position, outpacing the market at +25% to 7.065 sales and 5.3% share but the Chevrolet Spark is once again breathing on its neck at +116% to 6.502 with the Chevrolet Aveo rounding up the podium at 6.337 (+22%). The VW Jetta (+13%), Vento (+37%) and Nissan Pickup (+45%) follow. The March (#7), Tsuru (#8) and Sentra (#10) make it five Nissans in the Top 10 this month. By far the most popular recent launch (<12 months), the Ford Figo continues to progress: up a further two spots on July to #12. It is followed by the Kia Rio (#30), Chevrolet Equinox (#34), Hyundai Tucson (#39), Mazda CX-3 (#45) and Kia Soul (#55). Launched last month, the Hyundai Creta is up 16 spots to #60 while the Dodge Neon (aka Fiat Tipo/Egea) is up 9 to #69. Finally, we welcome the Nissan Kicks at #200 with 10 sales.
