Spain June 2016: Renault and Seat Ibiza lead market up 11%

New car sales in Spain are up by a robust 11% year-on-year this month to 124.350 registrations, the biggest June score since pre-recession 2007 (166.298), bringing the year-to-date total to 626.756 units, up 12% and also the largest half year tally in Spain since the recession (2008: 702.503). Some great news looking into the channel detail: private sales do the ground work with a 15% surge to 59.543 and 47.9% share, while rental sales and company sales both gain 8% to 28.5% and 23.6% share respectively. Brand-wise, Renault gains 19% to take the lead what 9.5% share, distancing Opel (+8%), Volkswagen (-1%) and Peugeot up an excellent 25%. Citroen (+19%), Fiat (+37%), Toyota (+21%), Hyundai (+31%), BMW (+24%) and Mini (+34%) also make themselves noticed inside the Top 20, while among smaller brands Honda (+84%), Smart (+86%), Jaguar (+229%) and Infiniti (+200%) stand out.

In the models ranking, the Seat Ibiza leaps up two spots on May and 34% year-on-year to get back to pole position for the 2nd time in the past 3 months – and year – with 4.259 sales and 3.4% share. It distances the Opel Corsa (+40%), VW Polo (+3%) and Seat Leon (-8%). The Peugeot 308 surges 52% to #5, the Opel Astra is up 31% to #6 and the Peugeot 208 up 38% to #9. Below, a string of crossovers continue to beat the market: the Nissan Qashqai (+34%), Renault Captur (+17%), Kia Sportage (+18%), Opel Mokka (+28%), Renault Kadjar (+448%), Hyundai Tucson (#19) and Fiat 500X (+271%) are all in great shape and within the Top 25. Further down, the Seat Ateca is down 20 spots to #133 and we welcome no less than five new nameplates in the Spanish charts this month: the Citroen E-Mehari (#225), Fiat 124 Spider (#234), Maserati Levante (#243), Volvo S90 (#253) and Hyundai Ioniq (#282).
