Excellent news for the Hungarian new car market in May: sales are up a stunning 45% year-on-year to 8.506 passenger cars, the highest monthly tally since the 2008 crisis hit Hungary hard. Year-to-date volumes are now up 22% to 36.267 units. Local producer Suzuki remains the uncontested leader with 11.4% share vs. 9.6% for both Skoda (#2) and Opel (#3). Volkswagen (8.3%) overtakes Ford (8.1%) to take 4th place while Hyundai shoots up to #6 with 5.9% (#16 in 2015) thanks to an outstanding score by the Tucson SUV, breaking into the Top 5 this month with 225 sales, and the i20 up to #8. The Suzuki Vitara is once again the most popular nameplate in the country with 530 sales and 6.2% share, distancing the Skoda Octavia and Ford Focus.
