Portugal Full Year 2015: Renault Clio clear winner in market up 25%

The Portuguese new car market lodges a third consecutive year of very dynamic growth, catching up on time lost during the Global Financial Crisis at +25% to 178.503 registrations. Market leader Renault evolves like the market at +25% to 20.447 sales and 11.5% share, a comfortable two percentage points above Volkswagen (+22%) and Peugeot (+26%) while Mercedes pushes up 33% to 4th overall and even led the Portuguese sales charts in August and September. Nissan (+44%), Ford (+49%), Kia (+44%), Smart (+82%), Mini (+36%), Hyundai (+42%), Land Rover (+37%), Jaguar (+85%), Jeep (+760%) and Suzuki (+516%) also frankly outpace the market.

Over in the models ranking, the Renault Clio posts a third consecutive year in pole position thanks to sales up 24% to 9.574 units vs. just +9% to 6.114 for the VW Golf, +3% and 5.499 for the Peugeot 208 and +14% and 5.498 for the VW Polo in a Top 4 identical to a year ago. The Nissan Qashqai at #5 (+35%), Renault Captur at #6 (+55%) – but #2 in December, Peugeot 308 at #8 (+50%) and Mercedes A-Class at #9 (+42%) all gain significant ground in the Top 10. Notice also the Ford Focus up 86%, Peugeot 2008 up 51%, VW Passat up 135%, Mercedes CLA up 148%, BMW 2 Series up 378%, BMW 4 Series up 113% and Mini up 92%. The Fiat 500X is the most popular all-new model, finishing 2015 just outside the Top 50, above the Mazda CX-3 (#86), Opel Karl (#89) and Ford Tourneo Courier (#97).
