Even though Croatian new car sales are up 10% year-on-year, August remains the weakest month of the year by far at just 1.729 registrations, with the year-to-date total now standing at 26.628 units, up 3% on 2014. Volkswagen leads the brands ranking but with a markedly lower market share than it has been used to so far in 2015 at 12.0% vs. 16.0%, Skoda jumps two spot on July to #2 and 9.7% above Opel (7.1%), Renault (7.0%) and Peugeot (6.7%). Suzuki and Mazda are both up 5 spots to #7 and #10 respectively, Mercedes soars to 4.0% market share vs. 2.3% so far this year and Dacia drops to #17 vs. #7 in 2015.
The main event of the month in Croatia is the historical pole position of the Seat Leon with 108 sales and 6.2%. However this score, as momentous as it is – never before had a Seat topped the Croatian sales charts – has nothing to do with a sudden love of Croatian customers for the Spanish compact car, rather a combination of fleet sales and re-exports towards other European Union countries. The Skoda Octavia is up 6 spots to land in 2nd place, the VW Golf is up 3 to #3 and becomes the 2015 YTD Croatian best-seller, overtaking the Opel Astra plummeting down to #18 as the new generation is about to hit dealerships. In other news, the Suzuki Vitara surges to #4 with an outstanding 4.3% share, the Renault Mégane is up to #6, the Opel Insignia up to #8 and Mazda3 up to #12.
