Dutch new car sales are back to a rosy outlook: up a robust 13% year-on-year in June to 36.999 registrations, bringing back the year-to-date total into positive territory halfway through 2015 at 201.582 units, up 1% on 2014. Volkswagen is up a splendid 45% year-to-date to lead the brands ranking by far at 3.974 sales and 10.7% above Opel up 3 spots on May, Peugeot (-1) and Renault (-1). Ford (+41%), Citroen (+36%), Kia (+23%), Volvo (+22%) and Mercedes (+30%) all lodge spectacular year-on-year gains inside the Top 10, while outside Porsche (+114%), Hyundai (+122%), Suzuki (+136%) impress and Smart is up 15-fold on June 2014 thanks to the arrival of the Forfour.

New car sales in the Netherlands are heavily skewed by the government attributing preferential pricing to eco-friendly trims, which impacts not just the car’s price but also the overall amount of tax the car buyer is paying. This has had such a drastic impact on the models sold in the Netherlands that some nameplates (e.g. the Mitsubishi Outlander) sell over half their European totals here. There is now talk of ending these practices in 2016. In this context, the Peugeot 308 remains the best-selling nameplate in the country in June thanks to 1.609 sales ahead of the VW Golf at 1.338 units and the Renault Clio at 1.175. This score enables the Golf to overtake the Clio to lead year-to-date at 7.531 units vs. 7.452.

Among recent launches, notice the Opel Karl up 159 ranks on May to #66 and 172 sales for its first full month in market, the Renault Kadjar up 109 spots to #94 and the Jaguar XE up 67 to #144.
