Another forgettable month for Dutch new car sales: down a very harsh 19% year-on-year in November to 32,507 deliveries, bringing the year-to-date total to 351,752 units, down 7% on 2013. Keep in mind new car sales in the Netherlands are biased by preferential pricing attributed to the most eco-friendly variants of some models. This pricing impacts not just the car but also the overall amount of tax the car buyer is paying and can mean a model goes from no sale one month to #1 the next as one variant entered the preferential pricing list. In this context, Peugeot lodges an exceptional month in the Netherlands, passing Volkswagen to become the #1 manufacturer in the country with 3,928 sales and 12.1% share vs. 3,512 and 10.8% for VW. This is in large part due to the success of the 308, #1 for the 5th time in the past 6 months and by far at 6.3% share vs. 4.2% and #3 at home in France. The 308 is now #4 YTD.

It’s a good month for French carmakers with Renault ranking #3 with 9% share thanks to the Clio up to #2 and 4.3% and now just 375 sales below the VW Golf for the FY2014 pole position – December will be decisive. Finally Citroen jumps up to #4 overall with 6.8% share thanks to the success of the new generation C1 (#10) and C4 Cactus at #15 and 1.9% share vs. #20 and 1.1% in France. Other great performers in the models ranking this month in the Netherlands include the Volvo V40 extremely solid again at #5, the Peugeot 108 at #7, Opel Corsa up 14 spots on October to #8, Renault Twingo up 9 to #17 and Tesla Model S up 80 to #56.

Jeep Renegade Netherlands November 2014The Renegade already represents 90% of Jeep sales in the Netherlands!

Among recent newcomers, the most impressive is without a doubt the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, already up to #31 with 283 sales and just under 1% market share, but more significantly already BMW’s best-seller in the Netherlands above the 3 Series! The Jeep Renegade also reshuffles the Jeep brand’s sales hierarchy in November: for its 2nd month in market, its breaks into the Dutch Top 100 at #96 with a still modest 62 sales – nevertheless an astounding 90% of Jeep sales in the country! Notice also the Smart Forfour reappearing at #109, the Suzuki Celerio landing at #115 and the Lexus NX down 16 spots on October to #117.
