New vehicle sales in Hong Kong are up 6% year-on-year in October to 4,625 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 44,298 deliveries, up 12% on 2013. Hong Kong is one of the territories in the world with the highest penetration of premium/luxury vehicles: with no less than one in 3 sales year-to-date (33.2%) being made in that segment, 45.5% when only counting private cars and removing commercial vehicles. And we have some very fine examples illustrating this trend this month: the most impressive being the Lexus NX breaking into the Top 10 for its 2nd month in market at #8 with 1.8% share, making Hong Kong the first territory in the world to welcome Lexus’s new SUV among its 10 most popular vehicles.
Notice also the Mercedes C-Class up 6 spots on September to #4 and 3.1% share, the Mercedes GLA shooting up 71 ranks to #14 making Hong Kong its 2nd highest ranking territory after Switzerland, the BMW i3 up 77 spots to #15, Porsche Macan up 5 to #26 and 1% share, the Maserati Ghibli ranking inside the Hong Kong Top 50 for the 5th time in the past 6 months at #39, the BMW X4 up 17 to #52 and, last but not least, the Lamborghini Huracan breaking into the Hong Kong Top 100 for its 2nd month of sales at #99 – needless to say the first territory in which it does so.
Non-premium highlights include the Toyota Hiace particularly strong at #1 with 8.6% share, the Toyota Noah taking off to 6.4% and shifting up to #2 YTD also, the Honda Odyssey reappearing in 5th place thanks to the new model and the Nissan X-Trail landing at #69.
