Saudi Arabia August 2014: Toyota Camry shoots up to #2
The Chevrolet Tahoe ranks #9 year-to-date in Saudi Arabia, a world best.

After a one month-hiatus, we return to the Middle East on BSCB with sales data for all the Gulf region, starting with Saudi Arabia. Continuing on its excellent run, the Saudi new car market is up 16% year-on-year in August to 65,020 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 544,810 units, up a robust 11% on 2013. Let’s get straight into the models ranking. After a month of July dominated by the new generation-boosted Toyota Corolla, the Toyota Hilux reclaims the crown it holds year-to-date thanks to 4.477 sales, still at a relatively shy 6.9% market share though, compared to the 8.2% it commands year-to-date.
Toyota Camry
The Corolla is kicked down to #5 below the Hyundai Elantra (#4), Accent (#3) and Toyota Camry, benefitting fully from runout prices on the outgoing model and jumping up 4 spots on both July and year-to-date to a splendid 2nd place with 6.2% share vs. 4.3% YTD. Further down, General Motors’ newly revamped SUVs are doing a good job with Saudi consumers: the GMC Yukon lodges a second consecutive month inside the Top 15 at #15 and 1.6% share vs. #19 so far in 2014 and the Chevrolet Suburban is up 11 ranks on July and 21 ranks on its year-to-date ranking at #16 with 1,053 sales and 1.6% share vs. 0.7% year-to-date. The Chevrolet Tahoe strangely has a month off though at #29 vs. #9 year-to-date.
The Geely EX7 is among Saudi Arabia’s 100 most popular vehicles this month.
Finally, let’s welcome Chinese manufacturer Geely into the Saudi sales data for the first time, with figures available retrospectively up to April 2014 for the entire Gulf region. The Geely EC7 is the brand’s best-seller in Saudi Arabia at #41 and 336 sales in August and #60 year-to-date, followed by the GC6 at #63 and #133, the EC8 at #69 and #74 and the EX7 at #91 and #119.
