The Dutch new car market takes a harsh hit this month: down 17% year-on-year to 29,530 registrations, which means the year-to-date total is now down 7% on 2013 to 107,265 units. Brand-wise, it’s a big surprise on top: dominant for decades until recently, Opel is up from #9 last month to the lead of the sales charts in March thanks to 2,643 sales and 9% share, ahead of Renault (8.4%), Volkswagen (8.3%), Peugeot (7.6%) and Ford (6.4%). In the models ranking, the VW Golf reclaims the top spot its holds year-to-date at at 1,101 units and 3.7%, while the Renault Clio is up 5 spots to #2 and the Skoda Octavia is up 7 to round up the podium.
In 4th place, the Mitsubishi Outlander is back up under the spotlight (or at least its PHEV version is), but the hero of the month is the Renault Captur breaking into the Dutch Top 5 for the very first time at #5 with 918 sales and 3.1% which is almost as good as the market share it commands at home in France this month (3.4%). Other great performers this month include the Nissan Qashqai up 20 spots to #7 and now #17 year-to-date vs. #51 in 2013, the Opel Corsa up 21 up #8, Fiat Panda up 7 to #13, Opel Meriva up 38 to #15, Peugeot 2008 up 13 to a best-ever #17, Dacia Logan up 18 to #23 vs. #218 in 2013 and the Nissan Note up 10 to #24 vs #94 in 2013.
