Now we’re talking. This month the Spanish new car market is up a shiny 18% year-on-year to 68,806 registrations, the best February result in 4 years and 2nd best since 2008! The year-to-date total stands at 122,297 units, up 13% on 2013 and here too the highest volume since 2010 and 2nd highest since 2008. Local manufacturer Seat historically places two models atop the sales charts in February: the Leon brilliantly takes the lead thanks to 2,453 sales and 3.6% above the Ibiza at 2,356 units and 3.4%, with the two cars now also leading the year-to-date ranking in this order!
Number 1 last month, the VW Golf is down to #6 and #3 year-to-date while the Opel Corsa is back up 8 spots on January to #3 and #4 year-to-date like in 2013. Opel is in great shape for once: it is the #1 carmaker in the country with a round 10% market share! The Astra is up 14 ranks to #4 and 2.7% share and is now #7 so far in 2014 vs. #11 in 2013. The Dacia Sandero is down 3 spots to a still very impressive 5th place both in February and year-to-date vs. #10 in 2013. Notice also the Fiat 500 up a mammoth 63 ranks to #9, the Opel Meriva up 110 to #29, the BMW 2 Series up to #181, the Mercedes GLA landing at #205 and the Maserati Ghibli at #222.
