New vehicle sales in Oman are up 6% year-on-year in 2013 to 219,636 registrations. If Toyota monopolised the Top 7 models in 2011 and the Top 5 in 2012, it slightly loosens its grip this year (only slightly) by ‘just’ monopolising the Top 4… The Hilux remains by far the most popular thanks to 26,760 sales and a massive 12.2% market share, albeit down 11% on 2012. The Land Cruiser Pick-up-Hardtop remains at a world-best 2nd place and evolves like the market at 19,274 units and 8.8% (+6%), followed closely by the Prado at 19,012 sales (+28%) and the Land Cruiser at 17,665 (+1%).
This means only Toyota models manage to sell over 10,000 units and hold at least 5% of the Omani market this year: the best-selling non-Toyota is the Nissan D22 Pick-up up a fantastic 82% year-on-year to #5 with 9,983 units and 4.5%, ahead of the Toyota Hiace (+32%) and Corolla (-4%). Notice the Nissan Patrol up a very robust 50% to #9, the Lexus LX up 20% at #11, the Nissan Altima up 40% to #14, Nissan Navara up 54% to #21, the Nissan Sentra landing directly at #25, the Lexus ES up 82% to #34, Nissan Patrol Pick-up up 134% to #45 and the Renault Duster up 158% to #48.
