Italy January 2014: Lancia Ypsilon and Fiat 500L shine

After lodging an excruciating 44 consecutive months of year-on-year decline up until last December, the Italian new car market manages a 2nd month in a row in positive in January: up 3% to 118,727 registrations. Below the usual Fiat Panda (7.1%) and Punto (4.9%), the Lancia Ypsilon hits its 2nd best market share in 3 years (below the 4.5% it reached last April) at 4.4% thanks to 5,188 sales, and the Fiat 500L is back to #4 with 4,526 units and 3.8%, its highest market share so far, also reached last August. The Fiat 500 at #5 makes the Top 5 100% Italian once again, with the Renault Clio the best-selling foreigner at #6.
Thanks to the 2nd generation, the Citroen C4 Picasso returns inside the Italian Top 50 this month.
Other great performers this month in Italy include the Peugeot 2008 reclaiming the advantage over its archenemy the Renault Captur at #13 with 1,873 sales and 1.6% share vs. #23 and 1.1%, the Dacia Sandero up 3 spots on December to #14, Dacia Duster up 15 to #21, the Audi A3 up 10 to #22, Opel Mokka up 18 to an all-time high #28, Audi Q3 up 26 to #31, Chevrolet Trax up 23 to a record #36, Peugeot 308 up 23 to #43 and the Citroen C4 Picasso up 25 to #46. Brand-wise, Fiat logically dominates at 21% share but down 4% year-on-year, while Volkswagen (+10%), Ford (+12%) and especially Peugeot (+30%) and Renault (+28%) all lodge significant year-on-year gains.
