Excellent start of the year for new car sales in Israel, up 21% on January 2013 to 27,209 registrations. After falling to #5 in December, Hyundai is back to its traditional pole position in the brands ranking thanks to 3,004 sales and 11.4% share, although still way below its FY2013 level (15.1%). Toyota follows at 10.1% ahead of Kia at 9.9%, Mazda up 5 spots on last month to #4 and 8.7% and Suzuki at 6.6%. Notice also Mitsubishi up to 6.3% vs. 3% in 2013 and Chevrolet up to 6.1% vs. 3.1%. Further down, Audi lodges a mammoth 2.4% market share vs. 1.1% in 2013, while Mercedes is at #20 with 1.5% vs. 0.8%.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla celebrates 6 consecutive months atop the sales charts but sees its market share drop from 12.2% in December to 6% in January at 1,633 units. But the big event is in 2nd place: whereas it led the overall Israeli market for 7 years in a row up until 2011, the Mazda3 had gone off the radar over the past couple of years, even disappearing from the ranking altogether from last June to last September! Now that the new generation is spreading into dealerships across the country, it’s resurrection time for the Mazda3: back up to #2 with 1,027 sales and 3.8%. It is followed closely by the Kia Picanto, leader in 2013, while the Suzuki SX4 delivers another astonishing month at #4 with 1,007 units and 3.7% share.

The Mitsubishi Space Star is up 16 spots on December to land in 5th position, its best so far in Israel and a ranking it also reached last August. Other great performers in the country this month include the Mazda CX-5 up 35 ranks to #14, the Chevrolet Trax up 56 to a best-ever #18, the Subaru Impreza up 14 to #19, Chevrolet Cruze up 12 to #20 and Chevrolet Spark up 24 to #22. For its first full month in market, the Mitsubishi Attrage shoots up to #32 with 289 sales and 1.1% share, and the Audi A3 is up 123 ranks to #38 this month.
