The Brazilian new car market is down 2% year-on-year in December to 335,948 registrations, meaning the final 2013 total is also down 2% to a still very robust 3,575,935 units. While the VW Gol is more than ever the king of the roads at 7.4% share and as the Fiat Palio stabilises at #3 and 4.3%, there are two big events in the Top 5 this month. In the 18 years since the Ford Fiesta nameplate has been on sale in Brazil (it launched here in 1995), never before had it been able to reach as high as #2. It is now done thanks to 16,299 sales and 4.9% share, with its previous best being #3 in January 2005. This is also the Fiesta hatch’s strongest monthly sales figure ever, beating the 14,375 units it sold last July.
For its part the Fiat Siena delivers its highest ever monthly volume at 13,747 units and 4.1% share (previous best was 12,910 in March 2010), and manages to beat the Fiat Uno (down to a paltry #5) for the first time on record! Both the Chevrolet Onix (#7) and Hyundai HB20 (#9) slide down to their annual level, while the Renault Sandero clocks its 2nd strongest month ever at 10,626 sales (it only did better in August 2012 with 11,743) and the new generation is not even here yet!
Further down, notice the Chevrolet Prisma gaining 21% on last month to 8,383 sales and 2.5%, the best scores for this generation so far but #11 again, the Renault Duster outpacing the Ford Ecosport for the 2nd consecutive month at #16 vs. #21, the Hyundai HB20S hitting its best ranking, volume and share so far at #19 with 5,460 units and 1.6% and the Renault Logan up 23 spots on November to #33 with 2,690 sales as the new generation starts to make its appearance on Brazilian roads. In the Chinese aisle, JAC are slipping further down, with the Chery Celer (#93), Lifan X60 (#97) and Chery QQ (#103) the best-sellers this month.
