* NOW UPDATED with actuals for the Top 50 models and Top 45 All-brands! See title *

40th consecutive month of year-on-year decline in September for the Italian new car market at -3% to 107,124 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,005,126 units, down 8% on 2012. After an awkward month of August when the Punto was only 6 units below the Panda, we’re back to normal this month with the Panda at 8.1% and the Punto at 4.3%, testing new low levels as the nameplate’s lowest ever market share since its original launch in November 1993… That sad record has been broken 3 times in the last year: from 4.7% in September 2008 to 4.6% in August 2012, 4.4% in March 2013 and 4.3% this month.

Reversely, the Fiat 500L manages a podium ranking for the 2nd month running thanks to 3,592 sales and 3.4%, now taking its distance with its “inspiration” the 500, down to #8 and 2.2% this month. With the Lancia Ypsilon stable at #4, the Top 4 is 100% Italian for the 7th month in a row. Other great performers in Italy in September include the Renault Captur up 4 spots to a best-ever #16, the Audi A3 up a further two to #17, Mini Countryman up 12 to #20, Chevrolet Spark up 5 to #22 vs. #32 year-to-date and the Peugeot 2008 breaking into the Italian Top 50 for the first time at #38 with 714 sales and 0.7% share.

carman, carman, carman, in contrast to your multi-year old link, which in addition shows a peugeot and citroen ranking amongst the lowest, the source, i presented, provides detailed and significant information. So my advice to you is: read it again! 🙂

  2. @sandu
VW and reliable??? as many people said here in the blog with all proofs the VW-group cars are very unreliable, big dsg problems, big multitronic problems(can they build a reliable automatic gear-box??), brake problems and so on… even Fiat cars are more reliable, especially since Marchionne is at the lead….wake up and don’t live in the 90ies
And I know Golf owners and they told me that they didn’t bought it because its beautyful

  3. italian cars are the uglyest cars made. golf and polo(especially polo!) has a great design. and are at least 10 times more reliable as the italian cars. thats why people go on german cars why they want a second hand car? because they are unreliable?
and one more thing: fiat is more cheaper than vw. its normal that italian people dont afford a vw or audi.

    @Marc-It
Wow, calm down, not meant to get personal, it was just my opinion. Italian cars are always too ugly, Ypsilon, Delta, Mito, Qubo, Doblo (in my eyes, and plenty of others) – marmite cars – or too girly – the 500/Panda etc. VW Group cars are far from boring – Lamborghini, or Bugatti or Bentley for example. They have something the Fiats/Lancias/Alfas will never have – build quality and strong resale values.
I used to like and own Fiats -Uno x 2, Tempra x 1, but these days they have gone far far too feminine with their designs. That is just my opinion though, I don’t mean to cause anyone distress, we all differ. Now I have an Octavia vRS, the best, most fun to drive and most reliable car I have ever owned, and far from boring.

reliable cars and VW group?? this 2 words doesn’t match together !! as I said in other posts here and I posted a lot of links with proofs, VW group cars are the most unreliable cars ever….big dsg problems, big multitronic problems, brakes problems and so on… and please I have never never never heard that a Golf or Polo are beautyful cars…even the germans say that these cars are functional or what ever, but not beautyful…

  5. @coolcat
Italians tend to like stylish designs. Golf (or Polo, or any other VW group car) is a -very good- appliance, but you will never really buy one for its original style.

  6. @coolcat
Exactly, like you’ve just said “it was just my opinion”.

So every country has a different taste, every person has a different taste, in my opinion it doesn’t worth it to discuss about tastes.

I don’t undertand why you need to say that. It seems to me an offense, even if i’m not Italian, because you have no need to say such an inelegant word.

You could say something like: “I don’t like any car in Top 10”

  7. Louis
provoking others leads to nothing but a negative atmoshere, as i told you, so please, don’t be a hopeless case, my dear friend, i would regret that 😉

  9. No way italians will start to buy Maserati… Being not an italian brand effectively… Ghgh @coolcat Polo is really beautiful and most of all it has a great personality! Lol

  10. @coolcat

Please add an I M H O (In My Hmble Opinion in web) at your personal (and stupid) comment.

Many, here, can say the exact Opposite. Golf and Polo can be the most similar “refrigerator with the wheel” on the marke, like ALL VAG production (Skoda, Audi ecc).

    At opposite
FIat 500, Lancia Ypsilon, Renault Clio, Fiat 500L, like Fiesta or the old and again nice Punto here all in Top10, are SURE MORE PERSONAL, “joy for Life”, creative and nice than tha HORRIBLE cars from VW and Merkel Economy!!

Keep Your vag in the trash!

  11. Do Italians deliberately buy the most ugly, goppy-mouthed cars on sale, with the exception of the elegant Golf and Polo models, there are no really nice looking cars in the top 10 at all!

  12. VW -14%, Audi -9%, excellent to me, crappy VW… Very good mont for the Toyota group with an excellent rise of the hybrid models up at an impressive +127,7%!

  13. More than half of the Audi A3 sold are Km 0, if you look for it on the road you’ll never find one easily, and they’re claming this numbers since january…

  14. HOW ever… Forget Lancia Delta…
This month has a good 781 car selling and is in 36th position.

    Ypsilon 3.454
    Delta 781
