Very stable worldwide models ranking this month: the entire Top 5 is identical to March. The Ford Focus manages to hold the top spot for the 2nd month in a row but goes back under 100,000 monthly sales at 92,481 units. This means the Focus reinforces its 2013 year-to-date lead at 366,119 sales vs. 354,510 for the Toyota Corolla, #2 at 89,141 units this month. The Hyundai Elantra is getting more threatening as the months come by: with 83,119 sales it is only 6,000 units below the Corolla this month, while the Ford F-Series resists in 4th place with 73,363 sales and the VW Golf remains 5th at 67,422 units.
It’s below that the worldwide sales chart gets a bit of a shake: thanks to a fantastic month in China (#4 there), the Honda CR-V is up 4 spots on March to land in a fantastic 6th position with 66,628 sales, the Chevrolet Cruze is up 3 to #8 while the Ford Fiesta falls back down 5 to #11. The Honda Accord is up 4 to #14, the Hyundai Accent back up 11 to #15 and the Renault Clio is up 2 more ranks to #17 thanks to the 4th generation met with success across Europe.
The Ford Escape/Kuga continues its progression and brilliantly breaks into the worldwide Top 20 this month at #20 (+1) but it is now threatened by the Toyota RAV4, up a further 7 spots to #21 thanks to the new model now hitting dealerships across the planet – the RAV4 was even my ‘star of the month’ in the World April 2013 Roundup. The Wuling Sunshine is back to its traditional #1 Chinese model worldwide rank at #22 but the best performer in the Top 50 this month is without a doubt the Renault Duster: up 25 spots on March to slice its ranking in two and hit a best-ever #25 thanks to outstanding performances in Russia, India and Latin America…
Further down, notice the Dodge RAM up 4 ranks to #29, the Chevrolet Malibu up 17 to #38, Fiat Palio/Siena up 24 to #39, Fiat 500 up 28 to #100, Audi A3 up 82 to #84, Mercedes E-Class up 33 to #95, Lada Granta up 26 to #97 and the Buick Encore/Chevrolet Trax/Opel Mokka up 24 to #100. Outside the Top 100, the Chevrolet Onix/Prisma is up 31 spots to #104, the Hyundai HB20 up 21 to #127, VW Up! up 50 to #150 and the Audi Q3 is up 107 ranks to #170 now that production has started in China.
