South Africa May 2013: VW Polo passes old mate Polo Vivo

New car sales in South Africa continue to be extremely robust, up 7% year-on-year in May to 53,997 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 268,156 units, up 7% on 2012. Another strong month for the Toyota Hilux in pole position for the 7th time in the last 12 months with 3,076 sales and 5.7%. In 2nd place we witness a very rare event: the VW Polo passes its old bro the Polo Vivo for only the 2nd time ever after last December thanks to 2,688 units and 5% vs. 2,645 and 4.9% for the Polo Vivo which however remains #2 year-to-date by far.

The Chevrolet Utility has a solid month at #4, the Toyota Etios spends its 13th consecutive month inside the South African Top 7 at #6, the Toyota Corolla/Auris is back up to #8 and the Mercedes C-Class is stable at #13. Notice also the Mazda3 up 14 spots to #21 and the Renault Clio IV up 15 ranks to #25.
