New car sales in South Africa are up 2% year-on-year in December at 46,016 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total to 623,914 units, up 9% on 2011. The Toyota Hilux is the most popular vehicle in the country for the 2nd month in a row with 2,709 sales and 5.9% but this is not enough to snap back the Full Year pole position from the VW Polo Vivo, finishing the year at #1 with 34,873 sales and 5.6% vs. 34,396 and 5.5% for the Hilux in spite of a weak December at #3 and 2,147 units. The VW Polo (current gen) is up one spot to #2 with 2,307 sales and 5%, passing its older sister for the first time since the creation of the Polo Vivo nameplate.

Honda Brio

The Toyota Etios confirms it is now the brand’s most popular Passenger Car in the country, staying at a brilliant 4th place with 1,721 units and 3.7% while the Ford Ranger beats its ranking and market share records this month, up one spot to #5 with 1,629 sales and 3.5%. The Ford Figo is also in great shape, up 3 spots to #6, as are the Chevrolet Sonic up 6 to #14, VW Jetta up 9 to #16, Nissan Qashqai up 5 to #17, Nissan Juke up 10 to #21, Land Rover Discovery 4 up 14 to #27 and Jaguar XF up to #63.
