South Africa July 2026: Toyota (+11.4%), Chery (+25.4%), Jetour (+183.7%) shine

Toyota Hilux sales are up 34.3% in July.

It’s a 21st consecutive month of year-on-year gains in South Africa at +11.9% in July to 57,708 units. This is also the 6th straight double-digit uptick. Toyota (+11.4%) matches the market to 24.5% share vs. 22.7% so far this year. It is followed by Suzuki (-4.2%) and the Volkswagen Group (+1.1%). Hyundai (-3.3%) and Ford (+1.7%) ensure the Top 5 is identical to last month and year-to-date. Chery (+25.4%) is up to a record #6 for the first time since January 2025 and breaks its volume record at 2,709. Excellent scores also by sister brand Jetour (+183.7%) and Omoda & Jaecoo (+40.5%).

The Toyota Hilux (+34.3%) takes advantage of its new generation to sail into the distance at 7.3% share vs. 4.4% for the #2, the VW Polo Vivo (+4.3%). The Chery Tiggo 4 (+31.5%) ascends to its first ever podium finish at #3, toppling the Ford Ranger (-4.8%). The Isuzu D-Max (-2.4%) rounds out the Top 5 ahead of the Suzuki Swift (+2.4%) and Toyota Corolla Cross (-16.6%). The Toyota Starlet (+9.9%) and Suzuki Fronx (-2.8%) are back inside the Top 10 at #9 and #10 respectively. The Jaecoo J5 is up to #39 and the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ up to #44, both records, while the GWM Ora 5 scores its first Top 50 at #48.
