For the first time in over a year (since March 2012), the Romanian new car market is up by a flamboyant 21% year-on-year in April to 5,242 registrations, reducing the year-to-date fall to 10% at 16,475 units. The Dacia Logan continues to feel the boost of the new generation, reaching 17% market share this month thanks to 893 sales: its best share since last October. The Dacia Duster holds at #2 and 4.7% and takes advantage of a weak month by the Skoda Octavia (#7) to jump to #2 year-to-date also. The VW Golf brilliantly rounds up the podium thanks to 185 sales and 3.5%, followed by the Opel Astra up 3 spots to #4.
But the spotlight in Romania this month is on the Dacia Dokker: after breaking into the Top 10 for the first time last month at #9, it is up 4 ranks to break into the Top 5 for the first time anywhere in the world at #5 with 159 sales and 3% share. Another outstanding performer this month is the Skoda Rapid, up 10 spots to break into the Top 10 at #10 with 111 units and 2.1%. Notice also the Fiat 500L up a huge 67 ranks to #31 and the Peugeot 301 slicing its March ranking in two to land at a best-ever #38.
