The Romanian car market is up a further 29% year-on-year in March at 4,902 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 13,965 units, up 44% on 2011. The Dacia Logan has been the best-selling car in the country each and every month since September 2004 (that’s 91 consecutive times) however it is struggling this month with 630 sales and a meagre 12.9% market share, its second lowest ever after the 8% it dropped to in January 2010. Year-to-date it is at 15.6% compared to 21.3% over the Full Year 2011

While the Logan worries, the Dacia Duster can’t stop impressing with its phenomenal success, beating its share record in March with just under 10% of the Romanian market thanks to 483 sales! This is by far the highest share the Duster has reached anywhere in the world, and never before had the Duster been this close to the Romanian pole position… Its previous best was 8.8% in August 2010 and July 2011.

Ford is in awesome shape this month in Romania and places the Fiesta as best-selling import at #3 with a huge 6.3% share, its best since February 2010, and the Focus at #5 with 5.2% of the market. The Skoda Octavia retains its import crown year-to-date at #3 and 840 sales for a 6% share. Other great performers include the VW Jetta at #7, Ford Mondeo at #9, Suzuki SX4 at #10, Peugeot 508 at #17 (its first time in the Romanian Top 50!) and the Range Rover Evoque at #32.
