Romania February 2012: Dacia Duster and Skoda Fabia in shape

Car sales in Romania continue on their excellent run, up 27% year-on-year in February to 4,126 registrations. This brings the year-to-date total to 9,063 units, up 54% on 2011. The Dacia Logan falls to its lowest market share in the country since January 2010 to 15% and 618 sales. Reversely, the Dacia Duster nearly doubles its market share vs. January to 7.8%, its third highest ever thanks to 320 sales.

Two Skodas follow: the Octavia at #4 with 6% share and the Fabia at #5 and an outstanding 4% of the market, to be compared with 1.9% over the Full Year 2011… The Opel Astra is up 7 spots on January to #5, ahead of the VW Golf (-2), Ford Fiesta (+3) and Focus (-3). The Fiat Punto comes out of nowhere (only 5 sales in January) to #10 with 71 units and 1.7%. Other great performers this month include the Suzuki SX4 up to #16, BMW X3 up to #27 and BMW 5 Series up to #28. The Range Rover Evoque stays at an excellent 33rd place and the Audi Q3 breaks into the Romanian Top 50 for the first time at #48.

    Still a long way to numbers similar to other EU countries. Most cars sold there should be used ones from the other EU members.
