After growing by 86% in January, 27% in February and 29% in March, the Romanian car market hits the brakes in April, down 13% year-on-year to 4,307 registrations, with the year-to-date total still up a healthy 24% to 18,272 units. The Dacia Logan, although #1 for the 92nd month in a row, is stuck at lowest-ever market shares: after 12.9% last month it holds 13.8% in April at 595 sales and is at 15.1% year-to-date vs. 21.3% over the Full Year 2011…
The Skoda Octavia reclaims the #2 spot it held back in January and over the Full Year 2011 thanks to 262 units sold for a 6.1% share, kicking the Dacia Duster down to third place with 251 sales and 5.8%. The two models than follow both reach their highest ranking ever in Romania: the Suzuki SX4, although not being in its prime anymore, is up 6 spots on March to #4 with 150 units and 3.5% while the VW Jetta ranks 5th with 141 sales and 3.3%.
Other great performers this month include the Renault Symbol up 19 ranks on last month to #11, the Chevrolet Aveo up 41 to #12, the BMW X6 up 18 to an outstanding 19th place for a model that expensive, the Peugeot 207 in runout mode and up 38 spots to #21 and the BMW 5 Series up 30 to #24. Finally, notice the all-new VW Up! landing directly at #26 with 35 sales and 0.8%.

Now we are about 19, 5 milions… @Miguel
SUVs and crossovers seem popular in Romania. It is interesting how tastes vary, we love Golf in th UK – No. 4 with 18794 sold in the first quarter, but not the Jetta No. 127 with only 781 sold. The Bali Blog was very interesting Matt, seeing photos of cars you cannot get here.
@maximus
The only MPV in the Top 51 is the Ford C-MAX at #37, so that sounds plausible.
New Jetta is selling well globally,but Australians prefered the previous model by the look of it…
lodgy will never sell well in romania. In western europe most likely will put sales charts on fire. But like sandero , lodgy it’s in a class with marginal sales.
We like sedans and suv’s
Dacia has just launched the Lodgy and will introduce the all new Sandero, Logan sedan and Dokker (based on Lodgy, Kangoo competitor) at the Paris motor show later this year. No worries for Dacia/Renault.
Second-hand market is maybe very important, like in others Eastern Europe countries.
Low, very low sales for a country with 23 millions!!
