Romania April 2011: VW Golf on podium

Although stronger than in March at 4,999 units, the Romanian car market is down 44% year-on-year in April and 17% year-to-date. The Top 2 best selling cars stay unchanged. The Dacia Logan stabilises around 17% market share and the Skoda Octavia confirms it is selling at a much higher rate than in 2010 with a solid 7.2% market share this month and 7.4% year-to-date.

The best performance of the month goes to the VW Golf, up to 3rd with a very strong 6.7% market share. It also passes the Dacia Duster to establish itself as the 3rd best selling car in Romania year-to-date at 4.6%, compared to 2.9% in 2010. The Duster stays relatively strong at #4 and 3.6%, ahead of the Opel Astra at 2.7%, making the April Top 5 identical to the year-to-date Top 5.

Good month also for the Renault Fluence, up to #6 with 134 sales and 2.7%, the VW Jetta breaking into the Top 10 at #10 and 1.9% and the Fiat 500 going from virtually no sales to 86 and #13.
