Still no models ranking available for Portugal in 2013, so we’ll have to do with a complete brands ranking which is not so bad. But first let’s marvel at the 9% year-on-year increase the Portuguese new car market is enjoying in February at 7,496 registrations, putting it at +5% and 14,511 units year-to-date. After falling by 31% in 2011 and by a further 38% in 2012 to fall below the 100,000 annual units for the first time since 1985, it would seem that new car sales in Portugal have finally bottomed out and could be headed for a small improvement in 2013…
In the brands ranking, Volkswagen takes the lead this month thanks to 779 sales and 10.4% market share, up 10% year-on-year while Renault drops to #2 at 702 units and 9.4% but still leads year-to-date by just 4 sales at 1,428 and 9.8% vs. 1,424 for Volkswagen. Peugeot remains #3 at 666 units and 8.9% followed by BMW up a fantastic 33% year-on-year to 597 sales and 8% and Opel up an even better 49% to 540 units and 7.2% Other big gainers this month include Toyota up 47% to #11, Honda up 65% to #15, Hyundai up 34% to #18, Mitsubishi up 136% to #20 and Dacia up 67% to #22
