Qatar August 2012: Toyota Hilux leads, Nissan Sunny up to #4

The Qatari new car market is up 22% year-to-date in August to 6,346 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 54,362 units, up a huge 38% on 2011. The Toyota Hilux leads the models ranking for the 5th consecutive month with 568 sales and 9% but it is still not enough to dislodge the Toyota Land Cruiser from the pole position in the 2012 year-to-date ranking. #2 in August at 487 units and 7.7%, the Land Cruiser totals 5,704 sales for a 10.5% market share over 7 months 2012 vs. 5,241 and 9.6% for the Hilux. The Toyota Prado is stable in third position both in August at 322 units and 5.1% and ytd with 2,743 sales and 5% – note it was only #8 in 2011…
Nissan Patrol
With the new generation now available, the Nissan Sunny jumps up 2 further spots to #4 at 247 units and 3.9%, by far its best score in the last 2 years, and now ranks #12 year-to-date vs. #18 in 2011. The Toyota Camry and Hyundai Santa Fe are both down one spot to #5 and #6 respectively, still very solid performances, while the Nissan Patrol is stable at a shiny 7th spot with 185 sales and 2.9%. The Toyota Corolla is back in the Top 10 at #8, the GMC Sierra up one rank to #9, the Nissan Altima up 4 to #12 and the Honda City is at #15 vs. #41 year-to-date.
Honda CR-V
With the new generation just launched in the country, the Honda CR-V is up a massive 55 spots to #18, the Kia Sportage is up to #23 vs. #43 ytd and the Renault Logan is up to #27 vs. #49 ytd. Mitsubishi has a great month, with the Pajero up 44 ranks to #32, the ASX up to #33 and the Galant up 21 to #35. Further down, the Chevrolet Captiva is up 28 spots to #31,the Ford F-Series up to #43 vs. #78 ytd, the BMW X6 up 39 ranks to #55, the Ford Taurus up to #64 vs. #109 ytd, the Jeep Cherokee up to #72 vs. #150, the Nissan Micra up to #75 vs. #136 and the Ford Mustang is up to #84 vs. 173.
