Kei car sales are up 25% year-on-year in February to 186,413 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 339,070 units, up 27%. The Daihatsu Mira continues to dominate the category, leading the way for the 5th consecutive month with a best-ever 22,023 sales, up a whopping 225% year-on-year. Year-to-date, the Mira totals 41,818 units, up 250% vs. 29,303 (+15%) for 2011’s leader the Suzuki Wagon R.
But the main event this month is the arrival on the podium of the Honda NBOX for only its third month in market with a massive 15,322 sales, over twice the amount of the next best-selling Honda Kei car. The Daihatsu Tanto stays #4 at 15,015 units while the Daihatsu Move is down 2 spots to #5 and 14,587 sales. The Toyota Pixis Space is stuck in 14th place with just 2,630 sales, albeit its best monthly score so far.
