Japan Kei Cars December 2011: Honda NBOX lands directly at #10 Full Year 2011: Suzuki Wagon R celebrates 9 years on top

In December sales of Kei cars are up 18% year-on-year at 127,246 units, bringing the final 2011 total to 1,521,146 registrations, down 12% on 2010.
Last month the Daihatsu Mira managed to hold the pole position for the third month in a row with 17,603 sales, up a huge 295% on December 2010. The Top 6 is unchanged with the Suzuki Wagon R #2 and the Daihatsu Move #3. The big event is the arrival of the Honda NBOX directly in 10th position with 2,860 sales, already beating by a large margin the other 2011 newcomer the Toyota Pixis Space, #13 with 1,746 sales in December…
Over the full year 2011, the Suzuki Wagon R celebrates its 9th consecutive year atop the Kei cars ranking in spite of sales down 18% to 160,439 units. The Daihatsu Move is up one spot and 10% to #2 and 145,201 sales, followed by the Daihatsu Tanto down 32% to 129,119 units and the Daihatsu Mira, star of the last few months, up one rank and 23% to #4 and 120,014 sales.
Notice also the Honda Life up 7% to #6, the Nissan Moco up 12% to #7, the Suzuki MR Wagon up a massive 141% to #11 and the Suzuki Jimny up 13% to #17.

Suzuki Wagon R is the top selling car in Japan and it holds second position in India. It is very interesting

Nameplate-wise this is correct indeed, however the Suzuki Wagon R sold in India does not have much in common with the one sold in Japan…
