Finnish car sales are up 3% in January to 14,158 registrations. For the first time ever in Finland, the Nissan Qashqai manages to top the monthly models ranking with 726 sales and an excellent 5.1% market share. It is followed by the Toyota Avensis at 683 units and 2011’s top seller the Skoda Octavia with 679 sales, both models grabbing a 4.8% share of the Finnish market.
Excellent month for the Toyota Yaris up to #4 at 3.9% share, more than double its 2011 level. The new generation seems to have striken a cord with Finnish consumers. The VW Golf is down 3 spots on December to #5 while the Ford Focus is up 3 to #6.
Given Finnish monthly sales are based on the Year-to-date Top 30, towards the end of the year there are a few models that would rank within the monthly Top 30 but don’t appear in the ranking because of their YTD ‘weakness’. In January we have access to a ‘true’ Top 30 and a few models make their appearance: the Audi A6 is up to a brilliant 15th place with 215 sales, the Toyota Verso-S is #19, the Kia Sportage #20, Peugeot 508 #25 and the Hyundai i40 #28.
