Record year in 2011 for Belgian car sales in spite of the economic crisis settling in again in Europe: the market is up 5% on 2010 to 572,211 units. Never before had Belgium bought so many new cars in a single year! For the 2nd consecutive year, the VW Golf is the best-selling model in the country with sales up 9% to 20,144 units and 3.5% share. It is the first time in 10 years that the Golf sells above 20,000 units in a single year in Belgium…
In Belgium sales of the Renault Fluence are accounted with the Mégane and the two models add up to 18,392 units and 3.2% share this year, up a massive 27% for a brilliant 2nd place. The VW Polo stays #3 with 16,295 sales and 2.8%, up 4%, ahead of the Ford Fiesta down 2 spots and 9% to #4 at 14,693 units and 2.6%.
The Renault Clio is #5 again (+9%) followed by the Opel Astra (+21%), Corsa (+13%) and Renaut Scénic (+1%). The Citroen C3 breaks into the Top 10 at #9. Further down the ranking, notice the BMW 5 Series estimated to be #11, the excellent 12th place of the Dacia Duster, the VW Passat up to #14 and the Mercedes C-Class at #16.
