Mexico May 2011: VW Clasico now a real threat for Nissan Tsuru

Car sales in Mexico continue on their good run, up 11% in May at 68,634 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 344,761 units, also up 11%. For the third time this year, the VW Clasico is the best-selling model in the country at 4,794 sales and 7% compared to 4,536 units and 6.6% for the Nissan Tsuru…

For the first time in 8 years, the Nissan Tsuru’s best-seller title is now genuinely threatened: at end-May the two models are only separated by 285 units, with the Tsuru at 24,575 sales or 7.1% share and the Clasico at 24,290 or 7%…

Chevrolet Chevy 3 puertas

Chevrolet has an excellent month: the Aveo is up one spot and passes the Nissan Tiida to rank 3rd at 4.7% share, the Chevy 3 puertas is also up 1 spot to #5 at 3.4% share, the Chevy 4 puertas ranks 8th at 2.4% and the Cruze is up to #11 at 1.6%, its best-ever performance in Mexico.

  1. Mat: Chevrolet Chevy is leaving the market soon. Expect a big leap for the Aveo sales (T250) since Chevrolet is bringing the price down on the entry 2012 model to compete with Nissan and Vw. Thanks for the great info on the Mexican car market , cheers from Mexiland.

      Thanks very much for this piece of information, very interesting! I’m curious to see how the Aveo will progress in the next few months then… Mexico may end up looking very similar to other Latin American countries like Venezuela where the Aveo dominates…
