Finland 1970: Ford Cortina best-seller above VW Beetle and Fiat 600

The Ford Cortina is the best-selling vehicle in Finland in 1970.

91.633 new light vehicles found a buyer in Finland in 1970, up 9% year-on-year. Ford (-7%) dominates the Finnish brands ranking for the third year in a row with 15.3% share with Fiat (+19%) stepping up one spot to 11.1% share and Toyota (+24%) landing on the podium for the very first time (the first Japanese marque to do so in Finland), also breaking the symbolic 10% share barrier at 10.1%. Volkswagen (-18%) and Opel (-85) round out the Top 5 and we find Datsun in 6th place. The Soviet proximity is also felt with Moskvitsh ranking #8. Neighbours Volvo (#10) and Saab (#11) also shine, while English Vauxhall (#7), Sunbeam (#12), Morris (#13), Austin (#14), Triumph (#21) and Hillman (#24) can also be found. Finally, notice East-Germans Wartburg (#25) and Trabant (#61) also getting a mention.

Model-wise, the Ford Cortina is the best-seller with 8% of the market, distancing the VW Beetle at 7.5% and the Fiat 600 at 6.8%. The Toyota Corolla comes in at #4 ahead of the Opel Kadett and Ford Escort, with the Russian Moskvitsh Elite scoring an outstanding 7th place. The Toyota Corona (#10), Datsun 1200 (#11), Saab 96 (#12), Datsun 1600 (#13) and Wartburg 1000 (#45) also make themselves noticed.
