The Finnish new car market posts another stable month with November sales up just 0.1% year-on-year to 8.966, yet the year-to-date tally remains up by a large margin at +10% to 109.696. Despite sales down 1% on October 2015, Toyota reclaims the brands pole position off Volkswagen (+6%) this month but remains #2 year-to-date. Ford (-5%) and Skoda (-13%) struggle but Nissan (+12%), Renault (+48%), Audi (+38%), BMW (+22%), Dacia (+92%) and Seat (+27%) impress. Further down, notice also Suzuki (+98%), Jaguar (+150%), Lexus (+180%) and Porsche (+120%). The November models ranking is a photo finish: only 3 sales separate the Skoda Octavia (+13%), Nissan Qashqai (+34%) and Toyota Auris (+8%)! The Ford Focus (+54%), VW Golf (+47%), Opel Astra (+139%) and Audi A4 (+294%) also make themselves noticed, all within the Top 15, and although it drops 10% year-on-year, the Renault Clio ranks far above its YTD level this month at #10 vs. #25.

Finland October 2016: Volkswagen up 24%, Golf up 96% in stable market

The Finnish new car market is up by just 22 units year-on-year in October (or 0.2%) to 9.104 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 11% to 100.723. Thanks to sales soaring 24% on October 2015, Volkswagen reclaims the brands pole position off Toyota at 1.113 units vs. 985 (-24%) for the Japanese manufacturer. Skoda (-14%) rounds up the podium, distancing Kia (+23%), Volvo (+5%) and Ford (-11%). Renault almost doubles its sales year-on-year at +97% to #8, Honda is up 38% to #13, Seat up 104% to #16, Suzuki up 29% to #19 and Porsche up 100% to #26. The VW Golf surges up 96% to lead the models ranking with 4.9% share, ahead of the Nissan Qashqai at 4.6% (+6%), the Skoda Octavia at 4.5% (-11%) – still by far #1 year-to-date – Toyota Yaris (-16%) and Auris (-39%). The Opel Astra gains 39% year-on-year but drops 3 spots on September to #6, the Audi A3 is up 46% to #10, the Skoda Superb up 116% to #18, Audi A4 up 54% to #19, Seat Leon up 189% to #20 and the Toyota RAV4 lands at #21 and #29 year-to-date.

Finland September 2016: Nissan Qashqai shoots up to the top

The Finnish new car market is up by a robust 13% year-on-year in September to 9.575 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 12% to 91.610 units. This month Toyota (990) overtakes Volkswagen (979) to become the most popiuular brand in the country despite sales down 7% year-on-year vs. a 13% jump for the German manufacturer. Skoda (+33%) and Nissan (+20%) frankly outpace the market at #3 and #4 respectively but Ford (+5%) drops two spots on August to #5. Opel (+46%), Kia (+25%), Mercedes (+29%) and Audi (+28%) follow, all posting spectacular gains, but Volvo (-10%) struggles while rounding up the Top 10. Beyond, Seat (+30%), Hyundai (+49%), Renault (+57%), Suzuki (+60%), Jaguar (+88%), Porsche (+144%) and Lexus (+233%) impress.

Skoda Superb Finland September 2016The Skoda Superb is inside the Finnish Top 10 for the 2nd time ever in September. 

Model-wise, the Nissan Qashqai (+48%) shoots up to #1, enjoying its third monthly pole position in two years after March 2015 and 2016. The Qashqai ranked #1 in Finland over the Full Year 2012. The Skoda Octavia (+9%) and Opel Astra (+290%) are kicked down one spot on August to #2 and #3 respectively as a result. The Toyota Auris (-15%) and Avensis (-21%) round up the Top 6 but both struggle, while at #10 with deliveries up 245% year-on-year the Skoda Superb breaks into the Finnish Top 10 for the second time ever after last January (#9). Further down, the Audi A3 (+92%), A4 (+74%), Hyundai i20 (+62%), VW Polo (+64%) and Seat Leon (+44%) stand out.

The Finnish new car market is up 9% year-on-year in August to 9.105 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 12% to 82.030 units. Market leader Volkswagen outpaces the market at +14% to 1.058 sales and 11.6%, keeping at bay Toyota at 11.1%, down 4% year-on-year. Ford (+25%) and Skoda (+13%) follow, while at #5 Opel (+40%) is now hanging with the “big boys” – the Top 4, traditionally well ahead of the competition – with 8% vs. 8.9% for Skoda. Hyundai (+31%), Seat (+37%), Mercedes (+44%), Peugeot (+45%), Subaru (+45%), Suzuki (+50%), Honda (+97%) and Jaguar (+750%) shine but Citroen (-24%), Renault (-28%) and Mitsubishi (-35%) struggle. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia holds onto the top spot despite sales down 1% to 460, over one percentage point of market share ahead of the Opel Astra, tripling its sales year-on-year to 358. The Ford Focus (+41%), Volvo V60 (+61%), Seat Leon (+64%), VW Polo (+76%), Audi A4 (+91%) and Skoda Superb (+609%) post the largest gains inside the Top 30 while the Honda HR-V breaks into the Top 20 for the first time.

The Finnish new car market is down 4.5% year-on-year in July to 8.222 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 12% to 72.919. Volkswagen remains in the lead despite a 27% freefall to 871 units and 10.6% share, ahead of Skoda at 10% (+2%), Ford at 9.9% (+12%) and Toyota at 9.1% (-12%). Opel shoots up 44% to 5th place, Honda is up 99%, Mazda up 19%, Suzuki up 71% and Jaguar up 800%. In the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia holds onto the pole position in spite of a 14% drop, with the Opel Astra (+252%) breathing on its neck. The Nissan Qashqai (-6%) rounds up the podium, ahead of the Ford Focus (+43%) while the VW Golf (-42%) and Passat (-45%) stumble. The Toyota Auris (+95%), Skoda Superb (+317%) and Honda Civic (+79%) shine on the other hand.

Finnish new car sales take off in June: up a very satisfying 20% year-on-year to 10.581 registrations, leading to an H1 tally up 15% to 64.695 units. Despite sales down 7%, Volkswagen remains the most popular carmaker at 1.313 sales and 12.4% share, distancing Toyota up a flamboyant 54% to 1.253 units and 11.8%. Below, Skoda (+21%), Ford (+31%), Opel (+49%), Kia (+32%) and Mercedes (+28%) all beat the market whereas Nissan (-16%) and Volvo (-14%) skid down. Honda (+209%), Seat (+88%), Fiat (+900%) and Jaguar (+550%) all post spectacular gains. The Skoda Octavia is the best-selling vehicle in Finland for the second straight month, cementing its year-to-date lead at 3.050 sales vs. 2.409 for the Nissan Qashqai, down to #5 this month. The VW Golf ranks 2nd despite declining sales (-14%), the Opel Astra is up 3-fold on June 2015 to #3 overall thanks to the new model and the Toyota Auris up 4-fold to #4. Other impressive progressions include the Audi A4 up 97%  to #11, the Honda Civic up 260% to #13, the Seat Leon up to #14, the Skoda Superb up 789% to #17 and the Hyundai i20 up 133% to #29.

The Finnish new car market is up by a robust 15% year-on-year in May to 10.338 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 14% to 54.110 units after five months.Volkswagen retains its brands pole position by a smidge at 1.133 sales (-7%) vs. 1.128 (+33%) for Toyota with Skoda rounding up the podium at 1.063 (+13%). Kia (+30%), Renault (+63%), Honda (+110%), Suzuki (+129%), Jaguar (+288%) and Ssangyong (+190%) also perform splendidly. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia is one step (and over one percentage point of market share) ahead despite stable sales at 5.2% share vs. 3.9% for its direct follower the VW Golf and 3.4% for last month’s leader the Nissan Qashqai (+52%). Just below, the Kia Rio (+78%), Ford Focus (+35%), Toyota Yaris (+104%) and Opel Astra (+127%) all post extremely impressive year-on-year gains. The Skoda Superb is up 5-fold on the previous generation a year ago to land at #12, while the Suzuki Vitara (+178%), BMW 5 Series (+110%) and Audi A4 (+95%) also impress and we welcome the arrival of the Honda HR-V in the YTD Top 30 at #29.

The Finnish new car market is up a very solid 15.5% year-on-year in April to 10.964 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 13.5% to 43.770 units in four months. Passed by Toyota in March, Volkswagen reclaims the lead of the Finnish brands charts both in April (10.1% share) and year-to-date (10.7%) with Skoda storming into 2nd place this month thanks to deliveries up 18% to 1.072 and 9.8% share. Toyota is relegated to third position at 1.011 units (-1%). Ford (+24%), Kia (+38%), Opel (+30%) and Nissan (+40%) all impress inside the Top 10, while below Hyundai (+45%), Renault (+36%), Honda (+74%), Mazda (+120%) and Lexus (+89%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia is ultra-dominant with over 5% market share despite sales down 6% year-on-year. The Ford Focus soars to 2nd place overall and is up a stunning 166% on April 2015, followed by the Kia Rio (+52%) and Nissan Qashqai (+53%). The Opel Astra rounds up the Top 5, gaining an outstanding 253% year-on-year thanks to the new model. Notice also the Audi A4 (+73%), Skoda Superb (+182%), Hyundai i20 (+181%), BMW 5 Series (+95%) and Kia Sportage (+88%) posting spectacular gains. Finally, the Suzuki Vitara makes its entrance inside the year-to-date Top 30 at #29 thanks to 120 sales in April.

The Finnish new car market is up 5% year-on-year in March to 11.495 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 13% to 32.795 units for the first quarter of 2016. Toyota is up 2% to 1.420 sales and 12.4%, that’s enough to bypass Volkswagen (+14%) in the year-to-date ranking with Nissan (-19%) rounding up the March podium. Ford (+13%), Honda (+24%), Mercedes (+30%) and Opel (+26%) frankly outperform the market in the Top 10, with Renault (+56%), Mazda (+49%), Land Rover (+89%), Fiat (+400%) and Jaguar (+767%) also impressive below. In the models ranking, the Nissan Qashqai (-26%) overtakes the Skoda Octavia (-24%) but the latter remains #1 year-to-date, yet both nameplates fall heavily in March. The Toyota Auris (+3%), Avensis (+34%) and VW Golf (+29%) on the other hand are in good shape, so is the Opel Astra (+164%) boosted by the new generation. The Nissan Note leaps up to #13, the Audi A4 is up 53% to #14, the Skoda Superb up 131% to #16 and Volvo V60 up 45% to #17.

It’s a flamboyant stat of the year for new car registrations in Finland: up 15% in January to 11.722 units and up a further 21% in February to 9.567 to lift the year-to-date total to 21.294 sales after two months, up 17% on the same period in 2015. Volkswagen is once again the favourite marque in Finland but it fares slightly worse than the market at +16% to 11.4% share, while Skoda (+26%) and Toyota (+24%) are catching up, both at 10.4%. Opel (+58%), Honda (+75%), Seat (+45%), Mazda (+43%) and Suzuki (+232%) lodge the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 20. Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (-15%) and Nissan Qashqai (+6%) hold tight on top just as the Toyota Auris (+40%), Ford Focus (+89%) and Toyota Avensis (+42%) make great progress. The new gen Opel Astra (+231%) and Skoda Superb (+201%) get a welcome boost as does the runout Audi A4 (+121%).
