Very difficult start of the year for the Finnish new car market, down a harsh 19% year-on-year in January to 10,209 registrations. BMW jumps to #5 brand overall with a huge 7.2% share, mainly due to an exceptional month by the 5 Series up to 5th place and 2.8% share. The Skoda Octavia keeps the models pole position despite sales down 22% on January 2014, it is followed this month by the Nissan Qashqai, up a flamboyant 67% year-on-year, and the VW Golf tumbling down 48%. New car sales in Finland are down 3% year-on-year in November to 7,194 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 98,233 units, up 2% on 2013. Toyota remains the most popular manufacturer in the country thanks to 1,061 sales but it is still not enough to overtake Volkswagen, YTD leader with 12,134 deliveries and 12.4% vs. 11,717 units and 11.9% for Toyota. For only the third time in the history of the nameplate in Finland after November 2010 and August 2013 and after spending 3 consecutive months in 2nd place, the Toyota Auris is the best-selling model in the country thanks to sales up 51% YOY to 386 units, however it still ranks 4th year-to-date, below the Skoda Octavia, VW Golf and Nissan Qashqai, with these models following the Auris in November in the exact same order. The success of the Auris in Finland can largely be attributed to the Touring Sports station wagon variant which accounts for more than half of the Auris nameplate sales here. The other success story of the month is the VW Golf Sportsvan, reappearing inside the Finnish Top 10 at an outstanding 7th position with 2.4% market share.
