The Qatari new car market is down a harsh 22% year-on-year over the First Half of 2017 to 27.539 registrations. Market leader Toyota suffers even more, losing one-third of its sales compared to a year ago and dropping from 35.1% to 30.4% share. Nissan gains one percentage point of market share to 16.1% thanks to deliveries down by “only” 17% while Mitsubishi follows the market at -21% to 9.2% share. Kia (+5%) and most impressively Hyundai (+77%) go against the grain to post volume gains. In the Top 10, Lexus (-50%)( and Ford (-42%) are hit the hardest. Below, Suzuki (+42%), Mazda (+35%) and Maserati (+53%) are the only other brands gaining ground inside the Top 30.

The Nissan Navara replaces the D22 and breaks into the Top 10.

Despite a 36% drop, the Toyota Land Cruiser remains by far the most popular vehicle in Qatar with 11.7% share (14.3% a year ago), more than double any nameplate in the country. Very impressive in 2nd place is the Nissan Patrol up 43% and six spots to a round 5% share, overtaking the Toyota Hilux (-42%), Prado (-14%), Mitsubishi Pajero (-20%), Lancer EX (-42%) and Lexus LX (-54%). Thanks to stable sales, the Kia Cerato #7) and Toyota Camry (#8) slide into the Top 10 while the Nissan Navara is up 7-fold to also break into Qatar’s 10 most successful nameplates at #10. The Hyundai Accent (+255%), Elantra (+49%), Mitsubishi L200 (+23%) and Kia Sportage (+28%) also impress. Like in the majority of countries in the region, the Nissan Kicks (#62) is the most popular newcomer in Qatar over the period.
